There are around 5 million cataract surgeries that are performed in the country with 85% of them over patients who are more than 60 years of age. There are about 9 million blinds in the country and another 2 million are added every year. 60% of this blindness is caused by cataract and about 13% from Glaucoma.

 

The eye care market in India is valued at 1.2 billion with spectacle lenses accounting for 48% of the market share followed by frames and sunglasses. The contact lenses market in India is growing at 32% CAGR for the last 3 years.

For this, HealthQ conducted a IDIs of 30 ophthalmologists and quantitative survey on 420 prospective patients of LASIK surgery to understand the demand preferences, influencers, spending intent and decision making process.
