Diabetes is now the fourth biggest cause of death in the world. Every year 6 million new diabetes patients are added to the ever increasing pool. India in now known to be the diabetes capital of the world with about 50 million people suffering from diabetes. It is also a major cause of mortality with about 200000 thousand deaths a year. In India, 50% sufferers do not know of their condition. Since 1975 the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes has doubled from 2% to about 4% of the population. Indians have a genetic predisposition to insulin resistance which coupled with changing lifestyle habits is exposing more Indians to Type 2 diabetes. India carries an infamous tag of the diabetes capital of the world.

Case Study



Decision making process and treatment methodology mapping for diabetic macular edema.

Treatment of diabetic macular edema is ridden with patient complications and treatment restraints. HealthQ conducted a study on 12 Ophthalmologists, 10 consulting physicians, 16 diabetologists/endocrinologists and 5 Nephrologists to understand the complete treatment methodology, patient complication, incidence of treatment options and decision making processes.


Home blood glucose monitoring (HBGM) practices amongst patients

HealthQ has conducted a patient study of 540 SEC A patients in 12 cities to understand the HBGM practices. HBGM equipment category is seeing a steady growth in India. A manufacturer of HBGM equipment maker was contemplating to invest in a new technology in HBGM and wanted to understand the test administration practices amongst patients in India


 Insulin prescription practice amongst endocrinologists

 HealthQ has conducted 65 IDI with endocrinologist in 5 countries to study the prescription practices. Is was a study commissioned by an Indian insulin manufacturer trying to expand in other south Asian countries. HealthQ interviewed KOL amongst endocrinologists for this study


Epidemiology of Diabetes amongst south-asian women

HealthQ has conducted a 6 country study on epidemiology and perception of diabetes amongst women in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. A Global not for profit organisation entrusted HealthQ with the south Asia leg of the study. Its a was comprehensive study of patients, health care centers (both urban and rural) and medical practitioners in these countries.


Brand perception of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion therapy pump

HealthQ has conducted IDI of 35 endocrinologists and GPs on the brand perception of an insulin pump. Earlier HealthQ studies had strong suggested that most patients only choose the brand recommended by the their consulting doctor and hence the market in India is driven by physicians.
